WHAT IS A GRID TIED SOLAR SYSTEM?
A grid-tied solar system is one that remains connected to the electrical grid like Eskom. Such a system generates power for the home or business only when the grid is providing power. The primary benefit of a Grid-tied system is the reduced cost of energy relative to the cost from the municipality or grid provider.
WHAT IS A SOLAR HYBRID SYSTEM?
Solar hybrid power systems combine solar power from a photovoltaic system with another power generating energy source like a backup battery system or an existing generator and allows for Solar power to be generated irrespective of whether the grid power is on or not. The two primary benefits of a Solar Hybrid system are the reduced cost of energy relative to the cost from the municipality or grid provider and the ability to provide power when the grid power is off thereby giving you uninterrupted power for your business or home.

ENERGY BILL SAVINGS
Solar PV energy is significantly cheaper than Grid Power in SA on a per kWh basis allowing for your energy bills to be reduced as you will be using less energy from your grid power provider.

Section 12B of the SA Income Tax Act covers Solar assets used in the generation of electricity and was introduced to encourage investment in renewable energy in SA. This section allows a deduction equal to 100% of the cost of your solar system in the year of assessment in which the system was first brought into use.
